Life is good for what ails you.

It's enough to make you sick!

On May 15th the CeladrinTigerettes were in the air again.
This time a tournament in San Diego, California. We planned to get there a day early so we could find a court and practice together but our sponsor had other ideas....we would get there two days early and do TV interviews.

We stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott which actually had a sports court, pool, work-out room and full breakfast daily. I had a king-sized bed and bathroom, Kitty had a queen and separate bathroom while Joanne got the sofa bed in the living room. Very nice for a four day stay.

We used Vantastic Cab which fit the seven players and driver comfortably.
On Thursday, May 16th we met with KSWB-TV "FOX Morning News".
FOX Morning News with Raoul Martinex
Of course it was only the last 5 minute segment, but we got to hang out there.  While we were preparing on the outdoor court to film, I got a radio interview with Magic 92.5.com.  PitchPublicty hadn't arranged it, but I'm opportunistic.

In fact I tell most people about how great Celadrin is.  I told my trainer at Jim's Gym and he thought it was so great after trying a sample, he went to Costco and bought a jar and said "I'll indorse this product for sure".

After FOX we went straight to the next gig . NBC studio is right downtown and we didn't have to be there until 10:30 so we chatted with some tourists meeting up to go on a cruise.

“We're from Baton Rouge, Louisiana”, Loretta drawled.

“But I'm from Nanoose Bay, British Columbia”, I piped in, not wanting it to be all about her.

And this blew me away, not only were two of the tourists from Nanoose Bay as well, but one lives 3 blocks from me and I taught her when she was in high school. See picture included.

We then did an interview which was KNSD-TV “NBC7 Midday Show: with Whitney Southwick.

We were finished by lunch. I hung by the pool in the afternoon and arranged to meet one of my volleyball friends (setter for Legacy 65)
Jeanne Lenhart
Jeanne Lenhart, for dinner. She organized a private dining room at the Catamaran Hotel on Mission Bay for the team. It was so fun and the food was great. My teammates were so impressed with Jeanne who is a designer, choreographer, dancer and Ms Senior San Diego 2012 . She has more energy than anyone I know.

On Friday May 17th we arrived at 7AM at XETV-TV “San Diego 6 in the Morning”. They wanted something different than what we usually do. But we just goofed around, pumped Celadrin and did some drills. We offered to sing our song, but hmmmm, they thought drills would be fine.

I took some white duct tape and marked the basketball court on the sports court
Fun with Barbara-Lee Edwards
and we practiced in the afternoon. After an hour and a half, KFMB-TV “CBS News 8 came by for filming. I tried to say hello to all my Nanaimo Volleyball teammates but they edited it out. So here's my chance to show them on the “big screen”.

Friday night our Van driver took us on a tour of San Diego. Interesting to see the California Sea Lions which leave the females in San Diego and the males winter across the bay from my house. Also the seals and sea lions hang out together in Canada, but have separate coves in San Diego. Guess women don't always get along but guys can belch with anyone.
In La Jolla we shopped with Jeanne (superb shopping skills too) and ate at George's. Worth the wait.

Saturday, May 18...Tournament Day
In San Diego there are 40 women'sbasketball teams over the age of 40. There were 19 teams in the tournament held at Corky's Gym in San Marcos. The teams 70+ and 75+ only wanted to play each other. We were the only team in the 65+ division but Kirstin Cummings runs a great tournament and she had us matched with three teams for Saturday and two for Sunday.
11:30 we met the San Diego Shooters, one of the top 60's teams in the USA. Since they were a younger team and we wanted to play everyone equal time, we suggested that we don't keep score, just have the refs and timekeeper. The Shooters thought this was a bad idea, so we played everyone equal time and beat them anyways.
Two minutes into the first game, Mavis collapsed. We were very concerned and she sat out the rest of the day. She was playing really well and there were no other symptoms during the day.
12:15 Immediately following we played Ladies of the Court...a 55+ team and tried to give everyone equal time and we didn't win that one but decided that it would be best not to count losses against younger teams, just against teams in our own age division.
After lunch, at 2:30, we played the San Diego Quakes 60+ team and beat them bringing our record to 202 wins 5 losses.

On Sunday, May 19 our phone rang at 5:30 in the morning. Mavis had been dizzy again and she was taking a flight home. Not wanting her to go home alone, all the Louisiana girls were going home too. That left me, Joanne and Kitty to finish the tournament. Good thing it's 3 on 3 and not full court.  There were two games scheduled and a TV interview.

Sunday, the three of us played at 12:15 and again at 1PM...back to back games again. The first game was against the best 55+ team in the USA, San Diego Flash. They looked and played like they were 35. It was fun, though we lost...but terribly exhausting. In the three minutes before the next game started, KUSI-TV was there to film us. The clip showed three times that day.  When we met our last opponent, a 50+ team which we should have beated, there was nothing left in the tank and a couple of free throws and a 3 pt. Shot made us the runners-up in the match.

There have been other articles on the Celadrin Tigerettes recently:

Joanne and I caught a flight home to B.C. While Kitty had to stay over because of the 3 hour time difference to Florida.

It was good to find that Mavis was fine...but I only had 2 days to get ready for the US OPEN Volleyball tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

May 24th-May 26th 60+ division for Senior Women's Volleyball..my team Legacy 60
May 27th-May 29th 65+ division...my team Legacy 65

Legacy 60 Gold in the Silver Bracket
The first tournament finished with Brazil (Gold), Mavericks with 4 Brazilians recruited (Silver) and BLT (Bronze), Shinkara (fourth). That's the “gold” division. We made the “silver” division and placed First in that Bracket or 5th overall.

It's probably where we belonged. The top 4 teams were stronger than we were.

In the 65's we were seeded 4th coming out of the 1st two days of round robin play. The third day was an entire double elimination tournament for the top 6 teams. We won our 8AM match, lost to the
Mavericks in the 10AM match in 3 games and had to win 5 more matches (including beating the Mavericks in 3) to get to the final at 6 PM.  We had played 14 games that day. Once again the tank was dry and we lost to Shinkara, winning the Silver in the gold division.  Phyllis and I made the All Tournament Team (All-Star selection).  Only 6 Legacy players made it through to this final game.  Diana left the night before because her husband had been hospitalized (he's going to be okay) and Susan left on an early flight missing the last two games.

There were a lot of fun events at the Louisville tournament. I saw the Churchill Downs, had a barbecue with the Boomers team where my friends Alan,
Steve and Sergey play, and went for dinner with former NBA player John Fairchild.
We stayed at the Hilton Garden InnAirport and even though they said they were within walking distance, proved to be a mile away and we relied heavily on the hotel shuttle drivers...great guys. With players checking in and out of my room I was so pleased when everyone had calculated and paid for their correct amount. The hotel had a little trouble calculating though and one of the girls got billed an extra $300 incorrectly. I'm hoping this has been all straightened out.

Since I have been home I have been SICK. Soooo tired....chest congestion...fever...constant mucus overload. For the first few days my head was cotton baton and I couldn't focus on anything. I've kept up with laundry...lost 5 pounds...watched almost everything on Netflix...read Daring Heart by Carmen Caine....listened to The Rise of Enymion by Dan Simmons and Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz on audio books....haven't worked out at the gym for nearly a month.

I'm obviously on the mend or I wouldn't be writing this. My husband Poul now has the bug so I have company. In 6 weeks I fly to Cleveland for the National Senior Games and our 8th National Basketball Championship. Then I fly directly from Cleveland to Italy for a Huntsman Friendship seventeen day tour including the World Masters Games where I will be playing with an Australian 50+ Volleyball team. But that's another story.
